Methodology for implementing Lean
The Lean Business System team is expert in the application of Lean techniques in Manufacturing & Service Organizations. Our programmes begin with an assessment or ‘diagnostic’ phase. Our in-depth knowledge and experience in the application of Lean techniques allows us to quickly identify and validate improvement opportunities. The resulting future vision of a value stream is often unrecognizable when compared to the current reality. However our real value-add is our ability to provide practical hands-on help to our clients to make that vision a reality.
The Methodology used by Lean Business Systems is very much a hands-on ‶Learn by doing” approach. In the early stages of a programme one or more LBS team members will provide step by step guidance through the necessary preparatory period which is essential prior to the programme beginning. This will be followed by the announcement and initiation of the project by the client where LBS team members will support and in some instances become members of the implementation team as the project is kicked off. This is typically the stage where intense training on Lean principles is provided to the key staff members.
Once the programme is up, running and gathered its own momentum, the role of the LBS team may transition to a supportive role for key staff members in the client’s organisation. During this phase, LBS team members will provide day- to-day support for the programme and will be involved either full time or part time on the client’s site. In order to ensure the programme is self sustained in the longer term, it is recommended that the key staff members previously trained on Lean principles begin to take ownership of key aspects of the programme. This is an ideal opportunity to apply what has been learned at the early stage of the programme under the guidance of the LBS expert.
During the latter stages of the programme, the LBS team will continue to provide support and direction to the key members of the client Lean implementation organisation. This is key to keeping the programme on track and ensures the organisation has taken on board the necessary skills to resolving the problems identified. It also ensures the client organisation moves forward with a Continuous Improvement culture embedded in the company for future improvements and challenges.

Engagement Model
Throughout the Lean Transformation, LBS works with the client to identify their vision, develop implementation timelines, meet their objectives, and measure progress. The process begins with a business assessment aimed at establishing a vision for the organization to drive towards whilst harnessing the benefits it provides. There is no charge for this initial assessment. Once LBS have had the opportunity to evaluate the scale of the transformation we develop and present a customized proposal that will outline the phased activity required to deliver that future state.

Business Assessment
LBS will conduct a no-charge Enterprise assessment to identify the current condition of the existing business system, existing approach and programs together with goals and objectives. Upon completion of the assessment, LBS will meet with the client to discuss the assessment, the organizations strengths and what opportunities exist on the Lean Transformation journey.
Engagement Proposal
LBS will develop and present a detailed proposal based on the scope of the future vision, outlining the roadmap of improvement activity and key learning objectives to achieve and sustain the future state. The proposal will include Scope, Objectives, Schedule, Learning objectives, Resources required, Process assumptions, Background, Price and Client requirements.
Periodic Progress Reviews
Throughout the transformation process LBS will meet with the client management and team members to review project progress and ensure that objectives defined in the proposal within the timeframes specified have been met. During these reviews any revisions that may be required or any additional needs that are uncovered during implementation will be identified and documented.
Close-out Review
Once the project has been completed, LBS will meet with the client to ensure that every aspect of the engagement meets or exceeds expectations. The project is not complete until our client agrees that the LBS team has at a minimum delivered on the objectives set out in the proposal and subsequent activity requested by our client.
